WLV - Can you smell gas?
Customer Help & Support

Can you smell gas?

If you can smell gas in your home, take it seriously. Open windows and doors where it is safe to do so, avoid operating electrical switches and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999. Once the property has been made safe, WLV can help investigate problems associated with your boiler, heating system or gas appliances.

Water Leak, here is what to do - WLV explains
Customer Help & Support

Water leak?
Here’s what to do!

A water leak can quickly cause damage, so acting early is important.

If you can safely identify your main stop tap, turn off the water supply. If the leak appears to be connected to your boiler or central heating system, switch the heating off too.

Avoid dismantling the boiler or attempting repairs yourself.

If possible, take a photograph or short video of the problem and send it to WLV on WhatsApp. This can often help our team understand what is happening before we attend.

Is it just a small drip?

Even a small leak is worth dealing with before it becomes a bigger problem. Place a bowl or container beneath the drip where practical and keep an eye on whether it is getting worse. A small leak today can become damaged flooring, ceilings or fittings if it is ignored for too long.

Magnetic filter installation Wolverhampton
Customer Help & Support

Is your magnetic filter leaking?

Magnetic filters help capture debris circulating through your heating system and can play an important part in keeping the system clean.

If you notice water around the filter, the problem could be caused by a seal, connection or damage to the filter itself.

Rather than taking it apart, send us a photograph and we can help advise on the next step.

No heating? Here is what to check, repair engineer at WLV explains
Customer Help & Support

I have no heating

Before booking an engineer, there are a few simple checks worth making:

Check the thermostat is turned up and asking for heat
Replace thermostat batteries if required
Check the boiler has power
Look for a fault code on the boiler display
Check the system pressure is within the normal range for your boiler

If everything appears normal and the heating still won’t come on, contact the WLV team.

No heating and no hot water?

If both your heating and hot water stop working, check whether the boiler still has power and whether a fault code is displayed. You can also check the boiler pressure and consult your manufacturer instructions for any recommended reset procedure. If the fault returns or the boiler will not restart, it is best to arrange an engineer visit.

Boiler Pressure Keeps Dropping

If you regularly have to top up your boiler pressure, there may be an underlying problem.

Occasional pressure loss can happen, but repeated pressure drops can indicate issues elsewhere in the heating system.

If you’re constantly repressurising the boiler, let us know rather than continuing to top it up indefinitely.

Customer in the West Midlands looking at the thermostat and doesn't understand how to use it
Customer Help & Support

I don’t understand my heating controls

You’re definitely not alone.

Modern heating controls can range from simple wall thermostats to smart heating systems and app-controlled devices.

If your heating doesn’t seem to be responding:

Check the thermostat batteries
Check the programmed times
Make sure the temperature is set above the current room temperature
Check the receiver beside the boiler has power
Refer to the manufacturer instructions if available

Still stuck? Send us a photo of your controls and we’ll try to point you in the right direction.

WLV - Scott explains difference between servicing and repair of the boiler
Customer Help & Support

Boiler service or boiler repair?

Not sure which one you need?

A boiler service is routine preventative maintenance. It helps check that your boiler is operating safely and correctly.

A boiler repair is needed when something has already gone wrong, such as:

  • Plumbing repairs
  • No hot water
  • Fault codes
  • Unusual boiler noises
  • Leaking
  • Pressure problems
  • Boiler repeatedly switching itself off

If you’re unsure, just describe the problem to us and we’ll help determine the right appointment.

Low water pressure on your boiler

Modern boilers often display a code when they detect a problem. Make a note of the code or take a photograph of the boiler display before contacting us. This can help our engineers understand the type of fault you are experiencing.

Boiler Service, Dudley

“Highly recommend this company. I used someone else for years to service my boiler however they kept letting me down. David came recommended by a family member and was so easy to book. I had an appointment within 2 weeks and he came on time; even messaged me when he was on his way. Really professional, personable and easy to talk to, especially as I had never met him before and I was comfortable and felt at ease having him in my home. Love the little touches too like the sticker on my boiler telling me when my service is due and a follow-up email. I wouldn’t use anyone else and David you have a customer for life now. Thank you!”
