The property was still operating on an old floor standing boiler paired with a traditional gravity hot water cylinder and pumped central heating system. Up in the loft, two separate header tanks were feeding the setup.

This type of configuration was common decades ago, but it comes with several major drawbacks:

• • Wasted Living Space: The floor standing boiler took up valuable kitchen floor space, while the hot water cylinder dominated the airing cupboard.
• • Inefficient Operation: Heating water stored in a cylinder results in ongoing standby heat loss and higher energy bills.
• • Low Water Pressure: Gravity fed hot water often lacks the invigorating flow rate desired for modern showers.

To prepare for a clean, modern installation, Adam Macey and the team carefully decommissioned and removed all components of the old setup. We stripped out the floor standing boiler and cleared away the redundant pipework.

In the airing cupboard, the bulky cylinder and insulation were removed, opening up valuable storage space for the homeowner and allowing for a full tidy up.

With the cylinder removed, the airing cupboard was stripped back to bare brick and prepared for fresh pipe routing and a much cleaner storage configuration.

Up in the roof space, both the central heating header tank and the cold water storage tank were drained and taken out, completely eliminating the risk of future loft leaks or overflowing ball valves.

Removing the redundant cold water tanks from the attic space ensures total peace of mind against rust, overflows, and freezing hazards during cold winters.

This also cleared the floor space ready for the new combi framework and pipe runs.

To completely free up floor space downstairs, the homeowner chose to relocate the new boiler into the loft. Adam and the team securely mounted the Worcester Bosch wall frame and jig to the exposed brickwork.

All copper pipework was run with absolute precision along with the Worcester system filter and limescale protection directly beneath the boiler jig.

Once the mounting frame and pipework were in place, the new Worcester Bosch 4000 combi boiler was hung and connected. All pipework was thoroughly insulated with high density foam lagging to protect the system against cold loft temperatures during the winter months.

The compact wall hung design fits neatly against the chimney breast, keeping the attic tidy and accessible.

To deliver adequate gas flow to the new high efficiency boiler in the roof space, the team ran a dedicated external gas supply neatly clipped along the exterior brickwork and sealed through the wall with a neat flue termination.

This approach avoided disruption to internal decor while guaranteeing full gas volume to the appliance.

One common challenge with loft boiler installations is checking system pressure and topping it up when needed. Climbing into the attic just to turn a valve is inconvenient.

To make life simple for the customer, Adam installed a dedicated remote filling loop with an integrated pressure gauge inside the airing cupboard on the first floor. This allows the homeowner to monitor and top up system pressure in seconds from the landing without ever having to venture into the loft.
