Shower Tray Replacement and Support Fix – Walsall
When a customer in Walsall got in touch about their leaking shower, we suspected something more than just a worn seal. What we found was a cracked shower tray that had been poorly installed and completely unsupported underneath. Over time, that lack of support had caused the tray to flex and fracture, leading to visible cracks and water starting to seep through into the floor.
The Problem: Cracked Shower Tray & Hidden Damage
The original installation hadn’t been given a proper foundation. It was essentially sitting on thin air, with no full timber frame underneath and only patchy boarding for support. Over time, every step taken in the shower had put pressure on the tray. Eventually, it gave way and cracked.
Once the tray was removed, it confirmed what we expected, visible damage to the floorboards below, and pipework that needed to be carefully worked around. If left much longer, water damage could’ve spread beneath the tiles or into neighbouring rooms.
What We Did: Rebuild, Reinforce, Replace
First up, we stripped everything back to the original floorboards and checked the condition of the existing pipework. Luckily, there was no serious rot or long-term damage, just some wet timber and signs of where water had been pooling underneath.
We rebuilt the entire base by installing a strong, reinforced timber frame, cut to size and positioned to support all corners and edges of the new tray. We also laid new boarding over the frame to create a totally flat, solid surface. Before fitting the tray, we added adjustable support legs to spread the load evenly and stop future movement.
Then came the new shower tray, a low-profile, modern design with better drainage, fitted and sealed professionally to ensure everything was watertight. Once in place, we reinstalled the glass panels and made sure the waste pipe and trap were correctly aligned and accessible.
The Result: No More Flex, No More Leaks
With everything supported properly, the new shower tray now feels rock solid underfoot. It sits level, drains well, and, most importantly, won’t be going anywhere.
It’s the sort of job where you might not spot the issue straight away, but it makes a massive difference to the long-term condition of your bathroom. We’ve seen plenty of trays fail like this, especially when corners are cut during installation.
